THE ASSASSINATION OF JESSE JAMES

THE ASSASSINATION OF JESSE JAMES BY THE COWARD ROBERT FORD - IS THE FULL TITLE OF THIS FILM.
****************************************************************
I LOVED MY MOTHER AND FATHER. THEY WERE MOST DEAR TO ME. YET, I WOULD NOT WANT TO SEE THEIR LIVES REENACTED ON THE SILVER SCREEN IN THE SAME MICROSCOPIC DETAIL AS THIS FILM USES TO PRESENT THE LAST DAYS OF JESSE JAMES.
THIS FILM HAS SOME OF THE FINEST PRODUCTION VALUES YOU WILL EVER SEE. GREAT COSTUMES, SETTINGS, FINE CAST, GOOD MUSICAL SCORE, EXCELLENT CAMERA WORK, CAPTIVATING GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATIONS .
WHAT THIS FILM LACKED WAS A REASON TO GO SEE IT.
UNLESS YOU HAVE A DEEP AND ABIDING AFFECTION FOR JESSE JAMES AND EVERYTHING CONNECTED TO JESSE JAMES, YOU ARE DOOMED TO SIT IN A DARK THEATER FOR ALMOST THREE HOURS AND WONDER WHY YOU NEED TO KNOW WHAT THIS FILM IS TELLING YOU ABOUT JESSE JAMES.
THE FILM IS LIKE A GIANT JESSE JAMES TRIVIA GAME, BUT YOU DON'T GET REWARDED FOR PASSING GO.
I WAS WAITING FOR THEM TO TELL US HIS SHOE SIZE AND ZODIAC SIGN AND FAVORITE AMERICAN IDOL CONTENDER.
THE CHARACTERS CLINT EASTWOOD CREATED IN HIS CLASSIC WESTERN, UNFORGIVEN, ARE COMPELLING AND INTERESTING AND HAVE A UNIVERSAL QUALITY ABOUT THEM - THAT TRANSCENDS TIME. THEY ARE JUST AS VALID IN 1880 AS THEY WOULD BE IN 2007.
I WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED TO CLINT'S CHARACTER - WILLIAM MUNNY, THE ASSASSIN.
WHEN A CHARACTER'S MAIN RELEVANCE IS THAT HE IS A COUSIN OF THE TITLE CHARACTER, THINGS ARE HEADING DOWNHILL AT THE GALLOP. I DON'T WANT TO HEAR THE NAME JESSE JAMES, BOB FORD, CHARLIE FORD OR DICK LIDDLE, ANYMORE -- THE CHARACTERS IN THIS JESSE JAMES MERRY-GO- ROUND, HAVE WORN OUT THEIR WELCOME IN MY PSYCHE - EXCEPT FOR SAM SHEPARD'S, ROLE AS FRANK JAMES, WHO WAS INTERESTING BECAUSE HE DISAPPEARED FROM THE FILM, EARLY ON -- IT IS NOT A GOOD SIGN WHEN A CHARACTER WHO IS NO LONGER IN THE SCENARIO, IS THE MOST INTERESTING CHARACTER.
THERE IS A BROKE BACK MOUNTAIN UNDERCURRENT IN THIS MOVIE, THAT IS ALWAYS THERE AND YET, NEVER FULLY ADDRESSED - IT DOES NOT MAKE THE FILM ANYMORE INTERESTING - THE FILM NEVER GETS BEYOND THE PRODUCTION VALUES BEING GREAT.
THE VICTIM OF THIS ASSASSINATION IS THE AUDIENCE, UNLESS YOU ARE JUST WILD TO KNOW HOW JESSE JAMES LIKED HIS TOAST, HOW MUCH SUGAR HE PUT IN HIS COFFEE, WHAT CHURCH HE ATTENDED OR YOU SEEK A LIST OF HIS RELATIVES AND WHERE THEY RESIDED -- I FIND THAT I AM ABLE TO MUDDLE THRU MY HUMDRUM LIFE WITHOUT KNOWING ANY OF THESE THINGS ABOUT GUESS WHO. DISREGARD MY NEGATIVE COMMENTS IF THIS KNOWLEDGE WOULD SERVE TO MAKE YOUR LIFE BETTER.
*************************************
THIS IS A BRAD PITT FILM AND I LIKE BRAD PITT. I FIND THAT FEW PEOPLE ARE EVEN AWARE OF THIS FILM AND WHEN BRAD PITT IS IN A MOVIE, IT NORMALLY GETS A LOT OF PUBLIC ATTENTION / BUZZ . STRANGE HOW THIS ONE IS SO FAR UNDER THE RADAR. IF THE PRODUCERS ARE WAITING FOR A BOOST FROM WORD OF MOUTH -- THIS FILM IS TRULY DOOMED, BUT I CAN'T ESCAPE SAYING AGAIN, HOW WONDERFUL IT LOOKS --- EVERY SCENE IS A PAINTING IN MOTION.
