MOVIE - MONGOL

THIS IS AN EPIC MASTERPIECE ABOUT THE EARLY LIFE OF THE MONGOL EMPEROR, GENGHIS KHAN.

I THOUGHT IT WAS A WONDERFUL FILM. THE SCENERY WAS AS GRAND AS ANYTHING JOHN FORD FILMED IN THE AMERICAN WEST OR DAVID LEAN FILMED IN THE DESERT WHILE MAKING "LAWRENCE OF ARABIA." THOSE SWEEPING PANORAMAS, THAT MAKE YOU WANT TO SEE AND EXPERIENCE THESE LOCATIONS FOR YOURSELF.

THIS IS A STORY OF FAMILY, LOVE, ROMANCE, SEX, POLITICS, CRUELTY, TREACHERY - MURDER AND WAR AFTER WAR.

THE ONLY BAD THING I CAN SAY ABOUT THIS MASSIVE AND DYNAMIC FILM IS, THE CONSTANT DEATH AND DESTRUCTION WORE ME DOWN -- I WAS NUMBED BY THE KILLING AFTER A WHILE AND I ALWAYS DISLIKE THE COMPUTER AUTOMATION THAT CREATES COUNTLESS SOLDIERS FOR A BATTLE SCENE.

AS I ALWAYS SAY, IF YOU ARE FIGHTING A COUNTLESS NUMBER OF ENEMIES, YOU WILL LOSE - IT BECOMES SILLY AND SEEMS LIKE A KID'S COMPUTER GAME, TO PUT MILLIONS ON THE BATTLE FIELD --- WHO FED THESE MILLIONS, HOW DID THEY GET ANY ORDERS, WHO MADE PLANS FOR BATTLES THAT INVOLVED UNTOLD NUMBERS ON BOTH SIDES?

ASIDE FROM THIS ONE ELEMENT, THAT I PERSONALLY FIND DISTRESSING, THIS IS A FILM THAT WILL BE REGARDED AS A CLASSIC; IT HAS THAT MAGIC --> PERSONAL STORIES, IN THE MIDDLE OF A GIGANTIC SAGA AND UNIVERSAL THEMES, THAT ARE NEVER OUT OF DATE.

WHEN YOU SEE THIS FILM, ABOUT EVENTS THAT TOOK PLACE ALMOST 300 YEARS BEFORE COLUMBUS LANDED IN THE NORTHERN HEMISPHERE, YOU WILL MARVEL AT HOW MUCH YOU UNDERSTOOD AND THAT IS A TRIBUTE TO THE MAKERS OF THIS EPIC. THEIR LOGICAL SEQUENCE OF EVENTS GUIDE YOU THRU A CULTURE AND TIME PERIOD THAT WILL BE STRANGE / FOREIGN TO 99% OF THE AUDIENCE.

THE FILM IS NOT IN ENGLISH, SO THERE ARE CAPTIONS AND I FOUND THE CAPTIONS TO BE
VERY WELL DONE -- THEY HELPED ME FOCUS.
