REACTION - FOOL'S GOLD

"FOOL'S GOLD," IS FAIR ESCAPIST ENTERTAINMENT. NICE PEOPLE. NICE YACHT. NICE UNDERWATER SCENERY. NICE CARIBBEAN SETTING. NICE VILLAINS, WHO ONLY HARM EACH OTHER. NOTHING IS GREAT, NOTHING IS VERY BAD.
THERE IS A LOT OF SLAPSTICK COMEDY, SO, THE FILM IS ALLOWED GREAT LIBERTY WITH FLAWS IN PLOT AND LOGIC.
RAY WINSTONE IS EXCELLENT AS THE VETERAN TREASURE HUNTER. HE IS IN A LOT OF FILMS, BUT YOU DON'T KNOW HIM BY NAME. HE IS ALWAYS THE SUPPORTING ACTOR, NEVER THE STAR.
ON THE DOWNSIDE, IT WAS PAINFUL TO SEE DONALD SUTHERLAND APPEAR IN THIS FILM AS A PROP, WITH NOTHING TO ACTUALLY DO - HE WAS ONE STEP FROM BEING A ZOMBIE.
THE WHOLE STORY LINE WITH WEALTHY SUTHERLAND AND HIS SPOILED, SILLY DAUGHTER IS A DRAG ON THE MOVIE - IT NEVER RINGS TRUE AND IT SLOWS DOWN THE ENTIRE PICTURE.
