BATTLE: LOS ANGELES IS A MOVIE THAT STARTS WITH THE ATTACK BY THE ALIENS FROM THE FILM, WAR OF THE WORLDS.
THEY JUST LOCALIZE THE ATTACK TO ONE CITY IN ONE COUNTRY, BUT IT IS THE BASIC PREMISE OF THE H.G. WELLS CLASSIC -- ALIENS ARE HERE TO TAKE OVER THE PLANET, MOST LIKELY FOR THE WATER SUPPLY.
THIS FILM FOLLOWS AARON ECKHART ( DISTRICT ATTORNEY HARVEY DENT IN BATMAN, THE DARK KNIGHT ) AS A VETERAN MARINE CORP SERGEANT, FACING RETIREMENT, BUT FORCED INTO ONE LAST FIGHT.
THIS PICTURE IS SUCCESSFUL BECAUSE IT DOES NOT WANDER OFF THE MAIN IDEA - WE KILL THE ALIENS OR THEY KILL US. THE SIMPLE MINDED
PATH OF THE FILM IS ITS GREATEST VIRTUE. COURAGE AND SELF SACRIFICE ARE ALWAYS COMPELLING.
IF YOU WANT DEEP AND COMPLEX IDEAS, FIND ANOTHER FILM, BUT IF YOU
WANT TO WALK A STRAIGHT LINE OF US AGAINST THEM - YOU WILL ENJOY THE BATTLE AND UNLESS YOU ARE PRETTY DUMB, YOU SHOULD FIGURE OUT THE WINNER.
ECKHART IS FINE AND AS ALWAYS, MICHELLE RODRIGUEZ IS A MARINE
WHO IS TOUGHER THAN ANY MAN IN THE OUTFIT.
I HAVE NEVER UNDERSTOOD FOLKS WHO HATE VIOLENCE IN FILM AND THEN GO SEE -- AMERICAN GANGSTER -- GUNFIGHT AT THE O.K. CORRAL -
DRACULA -- NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD AND PROTEST THE BLOODSHED -- SO, IF YOU WANT EVERYONE TO LIVE HAPPILY EVER AFTER -
DON'T GO TO A MOVIE WITH BATTLE IN THE TITLE -- IT WON'T TURN OUT WELL FOR YOU - DUH !
