THE SECRET LIFE OF BEES

Okay, let me get it over with, I am not strong enough to resist saying it, yes; "The Secret Life of Bees" is sweet. If you put The Queen of Latifah, Alicia Keys and Jennifer Hudson in front of me for two hours, you have made a friend for life.

Sophie Okonedo does not have the big name recognition of the 3 ladies mentioned above, but
she carries a heavy share of the work load in this story. Her role was the most difficult to portray and she pretty well nailed it.

If you can make a film that shows Dakota Fanning can do more than just cry on queue, you strengthen that friendship.

The racist scenes in this film were emotionally overpowering and cut deep into my psyche. The mixture of a hellish existence and a perfect world, sharing a common space in 1964 South Carolina is both beautiful and nightmarish.

The goodness in the human spirit is a theme that this film develops and after all the serial killer films on the theatre screens, this theme is very welcome relief.
