DEFIANCE

There is no question about the quality of the film, “Defiance.” It is a top of the line, first rate production.
The issue is how well you are prepared for the raw, cruel, heartless, brutality of war as depicted in this rooted in reality story.

There was a time when you could go to a war movie, starring John Wayne or Steve McQueen and leave the theatre feeling patriotic and spiritually uplifted.

That won’t be the case with “Defiance.” This story shows that war is another word for mass murder and endless suffering by all concerned.

I salute the actors, among them, Daniel Craig ( the excellent new JAMES BOND ) and Liev Schreiber, but most of all director, Edward Zwick ( who made “Glory” about the American Civil War, with Morgan Freeman and Denzel Washington ).

This film's hardcore approach takes all the romance out of war and puts death center stage. It is not an easy film to watch.
